Longroots Ranch — About Us

Rooted in Resilence. Raised with Purpose.
Longroots Ranch is a regenerative ranch in Longmont, Colorado, grounded in the belief that food should do more than feed our bodies — it should nourish the land that feeds us. Using regenerative agriculture and holistic planned grazing, we raise healthy livestock while improving soil health, supporting biodiversity, and building climate resilience for future generations. Longroots Ranch
Located in Boulder County, our ranch practices holistic land management that's all about how animal agriculture and ecological restoration can happen in tandem. We produce delicious, nutrient-dense meats — including grass-fed lamb and heritage Berkshire pork — while creating regenerative outcomes that benefit soil health, water systems, and our community.
Who We Are
Hi, we're Peter and Virginia Sargent
After years working in environmental policy and grassroots organizing, we pivoted toward regenerative agriculture as a direct way to make climate action tangible down to the literal roots.
Our journey brought us to Boulder County, where the opportunity to steward land and raise livestock aligned with our family direction. From the start, we've focused on holistic management, a decision-making framework that guides our grazing moves, animal husbandry, and long-term ecological goals.
We're proud of the practices we use and products we sell. We're committed to transparency in our approach and to the well-being of the individuals, animals, and land under our management. And we're doing our best to raise kids who value where their food comes from!

Our Approach — Regenerative Agriculture in Practice
At Longroots Ranch, we practice holistic planned grazing, an ecological approach that mimics the way grasslands evolved with grazing animals. This method uses strategic rotation of livestock to improve soil structure, enhance plant diversity, boost water retention, and sequester carbon — ultimately building resilience into our landscape.
We also integrate solar grazing — grazing sheep under solar panels! Solar grazing helps reduce maintenance costs, enrich plant growth, and provide natural shade and forage for livestock. It's a win-win-win.
To ensure we are achieving real ecological gains, we partner with third-party monitoring professionals who help us conduct Ecological Outcome Verification (EOV). This data guides adaptive management and confirms that our regenerative practices are measurably improving land health over time.

What We Produce — Clean and Local Food
Our livestock are raised outdoors on rotational pastures, where they contribute to ecosystem function while growing into high-quality, flavorful meat. We offer:
• 100% Grass-Fed Lamb
• Heritage Berkshire Pork
• Peak-flavor, Regenerative Meat Shares
Every share comes with preparation guidance to help your family enjoy every cut. We sell directly to our community — no middlemen — so you can trust exactly where your food comes from and how it was raised.
