What Are Wool Pellets?
Wool pellets are compressed sheep’s wool—simple, natural, and effective.
In your soil, they:
-
Hold water
-
Release nutrients slowly
-
Improve soil structure
-
Support root growth
They also provide a natural nutrient source with an approximate 12-0-4 (N-P-K) value—meaning they add nitrogen and potassium while feeding your soil gradually over time.
No synthetic inputs. Just a natural fiber doing what it’s meant to do.

Why Wool Pellets Work in Colorado Soil
Wool acts like a sponge—absorbing water and releasing it slowly over time.
That means:
-
Less frequent watering
-
More consistent moisture
-
Healthier plants through hot, dry stretches
They also break down gradually, feeding your soil nutrients over time instead of all at once.
Simple, steady support for your garden—especially in our dry Front Range climate.
How to Use Wool Pellets
Wool pellets are simple to use and work well in raised beds, vegetable gardens, perennials, trees and shrubs.
You can apply wool pellets by:
-
Mixing into soil ~½ cup per gallon of soil or ~1 lb per 10 sq ft
-
Sprinkling and pressing 1–2" into soil
-
Adding a small handful to each hole while planting
If you’re already putting in the effort to grow your garden, this is an easy upgrade that pays off all season.
From Our Sheep to Your Soil
At Longroots Ranch, we raise sheep on pasture using regenerative grazing practices. Our sheep grow wool year-round—but for many small ranches, that wool doesn’t have a meaningful market.
We couldn’t let our wool go to waste.
So we’re turning it into something useful—bringing it back into the soil right here in Boulder County.
Our wool is:
-
Grown on pasture at our ranch
-
Processed at a Colorado wool mill
-
Returned to your garden on the Front Range
