Where Clean Energy Meets Regeneration
Solar grazing is the practice of using livestock—primarily sheep—to manage vegetation beneath and around solar arrays. Instead of expensive and fossil-fuel intensive mowing, we achieve the goal of vegetation management and use regenerative land management to:
-
Holistic planned grazing inspired by Savory principles
-
Low-stress stockmanship and animal care
-
Continuous land and soil-health monitoring
What's different about Longroots Ranch for solar grazing? We don’t just manage vegetation—we manage ecosystems. Beyond swapping sheep for mowers, we go further with land stewardship to serves the ecosystem and improves soil health.
Learnings in Agrivoltaics
With support from the Colorado Department of Agriculture’s Agrivoltaics Research & Demonstration Grant Program, we’re putting holistic planned grazing to work on a 55-acre solar array right here in Boulder County—and closely monitoring how the land responds.
We’ll be sharing the wins, the challenges, and everything we’re learning along the way through regular updates.
